Trails nowadays are nothing like they used to be, very little pedaling and/or braking and the dirt is usually rock hard. So it didn't make sense to mimic MX tyres and Brian Foster rides a mix of everything. Brian's tyre needs to work well on everything, that lead to giving the FT1 a relatively smooth centre section to make the tyre as fast as possible. Turning is when an increase in grip is needed, so when you lean the bike over in a turn that's when the micro-knobs come into play.
